Studio City is a district in the southeast part of the San Fernando Valley. It is bounded roughly by Coldwater Canyon Avenue to the west, the 101 freeway to the north and east, and Mulholland Drive to the south. Studio City earned its name in the 1920s when Mack Sennett was filming in the area. His soundstages are still in use (by CBS).

Studio City is connected to Los Angeles’s vast network of freeways by the 101. Access to other parts of the city is also provided by Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Coldwater Canyon Avenue, and Ventura/Cahuenga Boulevards. Its main thoroughfare is Ventura Boulevard, where the bulk of its commercial activity resides.

Major landmarks in Studio City are the CBS Studio Center, the Ventura/Laurel Canyon shopping district, and Fryman Canyon Park.

Studio City had emerged as the true hub of the San Fernando Valley. With the Cahuenga Pass on the east leading to Hollywood, and both Laurel Canyon and Coldwater Canyon feeding into Studio City from the Westside, Studio City represented the gateway to the Valley and still does.

The Chamber of Commerce and the Residents Association established the Studio City Farmer’s Market on Ventura Place every Sunday that has over the years become an international tourist attraction and is one of the most successful markets in the Southland.

Some popular residential areas of Studio City include Colfax Meadows, Fryman Estates and “the Dona’s”.
